Eureka! A Transforming Idea for Business Mindset
Good morning, Friends!
I hope you’ve had a wonderful week! Mine has been very busy!
I’ve had meetings almost every day. I have three classes I’m currently going through.
And, very exciting, I’ve had a momentous Aha! Moment! I’m so excited, I’ll tell you about that first.
Aha!
I’ve been approaching my business all wrong.
Let me ask you, how did you first start yours? Well, for me, it was googling how to earn money from home and then how to make money online.
At first, there were many ideas. I even tried to get a job wrapping presents from home. My efforts ran the gambit.
But, in the end, I ran across Dean Holland and found a simple explanation of affiliate marketing and how to do it in his book you’ve heard me talk about.
All my efforts had one thing in common: I wanted to earn more money so I could pay for the extras in life—those things that don’t make the monthly budget but are looming ahead: contacts, the dentist, any surprise medical procedures (kidney stones were in my memory), etc. You know what I mean? We needed a buffer for the inevitable.
When I started, I knew I was putting too much pressure on myself, but I didn’t know how to let up. Well, I’ve got it!
Now, this may sound like something you’ve heard before, so hear me out.
It’s not about the money. It’s about you guys. (Forgive me- this might be a Texas expression!)
I’ve been approaching my business worried about how I can make it work for me. I need to forget about me.
If I approach this thing with the intention of helping you, it takes the pressure off!
Another Example
When I was teaching, I was very shy at first. I had a class of 36 6th graders who didn’t know English, and I was teaching them social studies. Why are there four hemispheres instead of two? What is apartheid? Abstract ideas to students I had to teach the phrases of stand up and sit down. Another class was a bit smaller with students who could speak English pretty well but I needed to teach them grammar. (I taught English as a Second Language my first few years.) I haven’t seen so many blank looks since.
Well, one day it hit me. It wasn’t about me being a great teacher. It was about them. I made it my goal to give them what they needed while they were in my classroom and I became an amazing teacher.
Aha! It’s the same situation here. I don’t need to try to be a success. I’m just going to make my job about you.
What do you need? Seriously, let me know in the comments. Is there anything you’re curious about? Is there anything you need help with?

Have an amazing week!
Hi Nakina – Eureka is such a great word. It truly is the expression of complete realization. Mindset is everything, right? In this business we really have to put ourselves in the place of our potential customers for us to see a real need. You are right when you say it’s not about me. With that in mind, if we do right by others, we will be rewarded in many ways and not just monetarily. Great stuff here, Nakina! Have a great week!
Hi, Ernie!
Thanks! We agree. Money is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what we can get from our businesses. There’s such enjoyment and satisfaction that comes from helping people.
Have a great week, Friend!

Nakina, the despairing energy surrounding the need to make money is counterproductive, as you say. This points to the need to clear out all of our false beliefs about money as they surface and resurface, time and again, like peeling the layers of an onion! It is liberating to do so. If we strive to succeed in every aspect of life, this work is necessary.

Hi, Kate!
Yes! I’m just hearing about this idea of clearing out false beliefs about money, such as the idea that it is scarce and hard to earn. It’s an interesting idea, as these beliefs have held me back. Here’s to the work and peeling that onion!

Hi Nakina,
I loved reading about your “Aha!” moment—what an insightful shift in mindset! It’s so easy to get caught up in the pressure of trying to make a business work, especially when being motivated by personal goals like paying for unexpected expenses or building a buffer for life’s challenges. I’ve definitely been there, focusing on what I need to achieve and how much pressure I’m putting on myself to get there.
But the way you’ve shifted your focus—from trying to make it work for *you* to making it about *helping others*—really resonated with me. It’s a mindset I’ve also been learning to embrace in my own journey. I’ve found that when I stop worrying about whether I’m “succeeding” or “failing” and focus more on how I can help others or add value, the pressure does lift. Like you said, it’s not about *me*; it’s about the people I’m trying to serve.
Thanks for the reminder, it is something that we need more of!
Hi, Alison!
I’m glad I could help! Our businesses are about serving others. If that’s my main focus, I can see how 2025 will be easier for me and even more successful. Here’s to our future serving others!

Hi Nakina,
What a great perspective! I love how open and honest you are about the shift in your mindset. Changing your focus from yourself to helping others is such a meaningful shift, and it clearly adds a new sense of purpose to what you’re doing.
Your story about teaching is such a great example, it shows how focusing on the needs of others can lead to real growth and confidence. It’s making me think about how I approach my own goals and how I can put more emphasis on helping others, too.
I’d love to hear more about how this change is already shaping your work. Thank you for sharing, it’s inspiring and a great reminder of what truly matters! 😊

Hey, Meredith!
I’m so glad to hear this post inspired you and that you’re curious about how it will affect me in the long run. I’ll be sure to give an update this week. My goal is to focus more on sending out follow-up emails. I expect it will be much easier now that I’m focused on helping my subscribers rather than worrying about what to say!
I’ll keep you updated!
Nakina
Sometimes you have to ask the question if you would be happy doing this even if you don’t get paid. The money is always the last thing to catch up. Writing what people want to hear about is a good thing to write about.
Hi, Scott!
That is an interesting question. Would I do this even if I didn’t get paid? When I started this journey, the answer would have been a definite “No!” However, now, I definitely miss the excitement and even the curiosity of “What’s going to happen next?” when I take a break. I trust the process now, whereas I didn’t even understand it when I started. I’m glad to share what I’m learning freely. Thanks for commenting, Scott!
