Improvements I’ve Made to My Blog

Improvements I’ve Made to My Blog

Good morning!

I am feeling so much better. To those who didn’t see my post on Monday, I’ve had Covid.

My apologies for missing last week’s post. I appreciate your patience, and I’m glad to be back in action!

Last week, I got some input on how to improve my blog from my mentor, Glenn Shepherd, and I want to share what I learned.

I learned how to insert my signature, why it’s important to distinguish between internal and external links, and how to improve my lead magnet.

Let’s jump right in!

How to Insert Signature

The problem with adding a signature is it’s not as simple as taking a picture. As seen on the left, the paper shows, but it doesn’t show as bright white. Somehow, you need to get only the writing to show. This is how I did it:

  1. I scanned my signature using my printer.
  2. I used paint to crop the signature close. This is important so there’s no big gap between the end of your blog and the beginning of the signature when you insert it.
  3. I went to the website remove.bg to upload my signature. It automatically removes the background when you click “upload.”
  4. To be clear, I clicked the upload button.
  5. I saved the transparent signature.
  6. Then, I added the transparent signature to the media in my blog.
  7. Now, I can insert the pic of my signature to the end of every blog.

Internal vs. External Links

Anytime you add a hyperlink to your blog, you can make it an internal or external link. This means that if someone clicks on it, it will open in the same tab or a new tab.

So, how do you choose? If the link stays on your blog, it’s suggested that you make it an internal link, which shows SEO that the reader is continuing to stay on your blog. This gives you search engine benefits. If it is outside of your blog, it’s better to open it in a new tab. That way, the reader can quickly return to your blog if they choose to.

If you do nothing, the link will automatically open up in the same tab.

To make the link an external link in WordPress, click on the link icon in the settings clog wheel, then click the box “Open link in a new tab.”

It looks like this:

Now, this is where it gets tricky.

Banners have a different process in order to open up in a new tab.

To enable a banner to open in an external tab, go to the Widgets section of your Appearance tab in WordPress.

Cick on Edit Image.

Under Advanced Options, you can click on Open link in a new tab.

Then click on update. That will take you back to your Widgets page, and you’ll need to click Save.

Improving My Lead Magnet

My lead magnet needed improvement because it isn’t clear how it will help the subscriber.

What is A Beginner’s Blueprint, what is meant by The Death of Traditional Affiliate Marketing? There is no indication, so no one’s going to click on it.

The lead magnet should say it is a free training AND what pain point it addresses.

So, mine now says it can show someone new to affiliate marketing how to begin and achieve a full-time income.

Conclusion

I hope you found this post helpful.

Do you have any ideas on how I could improve my lead magnet? I was wondering if I should say Free Video. Would that be better than Free Training?

Please leave a comment and cast your vote. I’d love to know what you think!

  1. Hi Nakina – I’m so glad you were feeling better I hope your recovery has gone well. That is such a crazy illness and so unpredictable. I absolutely love your blog post and the changes you have made! I have been following you for some time and thought your posts were fine just the way they were, but it is also encouraging to see that we can refine things just a little bit to make it better for our readers. Great tip on the signature. I’ve had my signature in my blog post since almost day one and it seems to add a nice touch. I’m happy to see you have added yours as well. This is an interesting idea about internal versus external tabs when you open up link in your blog. I’ll need to check it out. After reading your post, I believe it’s time to audit mine and possibly make some changes now that I’ve been doing this for a while. In summary, this post was extremely valuable and a thank you!

    1. Thank you for your well wishes, Ernie! I was very lucky, it was a mild case. I’m glad that you like the signature. It’s always encouraging to hear that small changes make a positive difference. Your support means a lot to me.

I hope the tip about internal and external links proves useful to you.

Thanks for taking the time to be such a supportive reader.
      Here’s to our success ahead!

  2. Great tip re: signature. I’ve been aware of the power of signing with your own hand. Thanks for the reminder!
I like to go into my prior blogs and you tube videos to tweak titles and tags, etc. It’s a process, of course.

    1. Hey, Kate!
You’re welcome for the signature tip!
I usually don’t go into my past blogs to make changes. I believe that over time, my blog will improve. There’s no need to hold my first blog post to my current standard. It would take way too long to continually work backward. And, my mentor suggested there’s no need. People understand we improve along the way 🙂
Here’s to improvements! Loving your YouTube channel, by the way!

  3. Nakina I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better and back to blogging! Your recent post is packed with practical tips that can make a big difference in how we present our content. I have created a digital signature that I sign all my blog posts with, I have been wanting to do the same with my emails but have been hesitant due to the potential for images to land them in spam.

The “Free Video” versus “Free Training” debate, is quite interesting as how you name things is super important. consider your audience. If they’re looking for quick, actionable insights, “Free Video” might be more enticing. However, if they’re seeking comprehensive guidance, “Free Training” could better convey the value. A/B testing both options could provide valuable insights into what resonates best with your audience. It is crazy how one word can make a huge difference in relationship to conversions.

Looking forward to your next update!

    1. Hey, Alison!
Thank you for your well wishes! I completely understand your hesitation about using signatures in emails. I’ve heard, too, that images in emails can land them in the Spam folder. Perhaps once email reputation gets established, it will be all right to start adding a personal signature there as well. That’s a good question for me to look into. That’s a great tip about A/B testing my blog’s lead magnet. It is pretty wild that one word can potentially make such a big difference.
Thank you for your support and sharing your thoughts.
I’m looking forward to bringing more updates your way soon!

  4. These are great tips. I knew about the internal/external links settings but the signature is something I’d never considered before. Thanks for explaining how to do it. The background removal site is ace.

    1. Hi, Andy!
Lol! I love that description… Ace! Yeah, I thought the background removal would be much more complicated. Someone hit brilliance in coming up with that site! I’m glad to share the tip!

  5. Hi Nakina,

It’s great to see you back and feeling better, hope you’re fully on the mend!

Your post is packed with useful insights. I really appreciate the detailed steps on how to add a signature and differentiate between internal and external links. Those tips are super practical and will help streamline the blog setup process.

As for your lead magnet, I think clarifying what it offers is key. I like the idea of specifying whether it’s a “Free Video” or “Free Training,” as it provides a clearer expectation for your audience. “Free Video” might be more enticing if it involves a concise and engaging format, while “Free Training” suggests a more comprehensive guide. It could depend on the nature of your content and what resonates most with your audience.

Excellent job on making these improvements, and I’m sure they’ll make a significant difference. Looking forward to seeing how your blog evolves!

I think I’m leaning more toward testing the “free video” wording for my lead magnet, thanks to the input I’m getting. It is more specific.
I thank you for your well wishes. Everyone has been so kind!
I’m hoping the changes do make a big difference.
      Have a great week, Friend!

  6. Glad to hear you’re feeling better! Covid really has a way of knocking us out, so it’s great that you’re back in action. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips—especially the one about inserting a signature.
Looking forward to seeing more of your content—keep it coming!

    1. Hi, Sarah!
Thank you so much! I was surprised at how strangely tired I was. I’d heard that about Covid but hadn’t experienced it, yet.
You are certainly welcome with the tips.
It’s funny how something I was reluctant to do- figuring out the signature- turned out to be so easy. Lesson learned!
      Have a great week, Sarah!

  7. Hi Nakina,
I never thought about adding a signature to the blog post. Interesting! Something to consider!
Also, regarding the writing on improving the lead magnet, I definitely could improve on that. My description is very vague. I guess I didn’t want to look overcrowded with text, but I’ll think of something to give it more information about what the subscriber will be getting.
Thank you for sharing those valuables tips, Nakina,
I’ll keep looking forward to your next posts.

  8. I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better and back in action! It’s great that you were able to take some time to recover from COVID and now share these valuable insights.

The tips you’ve shared are super helpful, especially the detailed steps on adding a signature to your blog. It’s a small touch, but it really personalizes your content and adds a professional touch.

Regarding the distinction between internal and external links, the way you broke it down makes it so clear. Thanks!

As for your lead magnet, clarity is key. Explicitly stating the benefits and addressing pain points can make a huge difference. I think “Free Training” works well, but “Free Video” could also be effective depending on your audience.

If your followers prefer video content, it might work better.

One suggestion might be to test both versions—“Free Training” and “Free Video”—to see which one responds better. You could even run an A/B test to gather some concrete data.

Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing these insights with us!
Looking forward to seeing how your blog evolves with these new techniques.

I will definitely test to see which lead magnet works better with my audience. Thanks for the tip! I’m glad you liked the signature tip. That was something I put off learning how to do. I shouldn’t have, because it turned out to be so easy. Well, I definitely learned a lesson there!
Have a great week, Eleanor! Here’s to doing it scared!

  9. Hi Nakina,
So glad you’re feeling better! I had Covid a couple years back and it is a nasty thing. I never new the best practice regarding internal links showing SEO that the reader is staying on our blog. I’ll use that moving forward, thanks for sharing it 🙂
I’m far from a pro in lead magnets but the changes you made above look great and make sense! Keep up the great work!!
    Denny

    1. Thanks for the well wishes, Denny!
I’m glad you found the SEO tip on using internal versus external links helpful. I’d heard to distinguish between them before, but I didn’t know why. Now that I know the reason, I’ll be sure to pay attention to detail. I’m glad you like the changes in the lead magnet.
Your input is valuable! Thank you so much!

  10. Nakina, Thanks for the tips about adding your signature and link building, I didn’t know that internal links were thought of in that way. As for your quandary about which title to use I did a comparison with AI and the finding was to use a combination of both (see the response)

Title 2 is generally stronger due to its clarity, directness, and appeal to a wider audience. However, it could be improved by adding more specificity about the training’s content.

    Improved Title 2 Options:
“FREE TRAINING: From Newbie to $3,000+/Month Online Affiliate Marketing Blueprint”
“FREE Affiliate Marketing Course: Earn $3,000+ Monthly Starting Today”

    Additional Tips
Keep it concise and clear. Avoid overly complex or lengthy titles.
Use strong action verbs. Words like “learn,” “discover,” “master” can be effective.
Highlight benefits. Focus on what the lead magnet will provide for the audience.
Use numbers and guarantees (carefully). Specific figures can be compelling, but be realistic.
Test different options. A/B testing can help you determine the most effective title.
By combining the strengths of both titles and incorporating these tips, you can create a lead magnet title that effectively attracts your target audience.

I just thought it would be interesting to see what AI said based on search rankings for each title.

    1. Hey, Ken!
That’s a brilliant idea to check what AI has to say. Thanks for sharing!
I especially like the tip about using strong action words. I will look into that. And I should definitely do testing to see what works with my audience. I’ve got to be willing to change until I find something that works!
Thanks for your input! It is very helpful!

  11. Hi Nakina,
Great to see you’re up and running once again! Definitely need to take time off, when needed, to get better!
Great blog entry – learned another great thing today, thank you for that!
Love your explanation of how to use internal and external links; it definitely can matter a lot as to where you want subscribers to go.
    All the best!

  12. Hi Nakina,

Thank you for sharing these insightful improvements you’ve made to your blog. I particularly found the tip about creating a transparent signature helpful; it’s such a great way to add a personal touch to your posts. Your explanation of internal vs. external links was also very clear—I appreciate the guidance on optimizing for SEO while enhancing the reader experience.

Regarding your lead magnet, I think specifying it as a ‘Free Video Training’ could be very effective. It suggests a more engaging format and might entice people who prefer visual content. Ultimately, aligning the wording with what resonates most with your audience will be key. Keep up the fantastic work, and I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better!

  13. Wow, I am so sorry you had Covid. I hope it wasn’t too bad, but I’m glad you feel better. These are awesome tips…thank you for sharing them with us. We never know when we will run across something and say, “Now, what was it that someone was talking about that signature thing?” I’ll need to remember who said it. 🙂

    1. Hi, Vanessa!
It wasn’t too bad, more like a very mild, tiring cold that just wouldn’t go away. I feel like I got very lucky. You are more than welcome for the tips! I certainly know what it’s like trying to remember where I’ve heard a good tip and wondering how to find it again. Lol!
Have a great week, and thanks for the well wishes!
