TikTok Debut & Moving Through the Emotions

TikTok Debut & Moving Through the Emotions

Hey, Team!

I feel like you, my friends, are cheering me on today as I write my post. And I hope you know I’m cheering you on as well!

I am learning to film and edit TikTok videos amongst all kinds of uncomfortable feelings and moving through it all the same.

Today, I want to share the details of using TikTok and my success in moving through my emotions and getting stuff done when it’s hard to do.

TikTok Videos

I’m going to fire off some tips here:

  • To make a video, just add the plus sign at the bottom of your screen. The screen will change and you can choose how long you expect your video to be. You may either record within the app or upload a video by pressing the button to the right of record.
  • White symbols will appear along the right of your screen. Press the downward carrot symbol, and writing explaining each symbol will appear. Most are self-explanatory.
  • The difference between text and captions is text is the writing, like a header, that appears and sticks to your screen for a while. Captions are AI-generated, so people can watch your video muted. You can edit the captions to correct the AI.
  • When you press edit to edit the beginning, end, or mistakes in your video, click split around what you want to delete. Touch the film to make a rectangle on the film, and you can delete it. If the wrong thing gets deleted, you can click undo to get it back.

Those are some basic tips to get you started.

My biggest tip is to give yourself some time to “play” with the app. You can’t break it, so play until it makes more sense.

Good luck, and don’t worry! You’ll get the hang of it!

How to Keep Moving

The Steps

  1. Write down all the tasks: What needs to be done today, in the next two days, and this week. Prioritize.
  2. Bust them out. That means getting them done like steps in a dance. Don’t think; just dance.
  3. If something needs to be done within the week, and you can… get it done today.

What I learned this week: Emotions are always going to come up when it comes to acting in our own businesses. If I was going to my 9 to 5, I could sit down and do the tasks unconcernedly. The worries belong to someone else. Since I own my business, I’m going to have to own the emotions.

I’ve learned I don’t have to be calm and centered first. I can be productive while moving through the emotions. It’s going to feel messy a lot of times. This month, I came across a businesswoman who says, “Messy makes me millions.” Listening to her, Shamina Taylor, I think she means she doesn’t wait for “it” to be perfect before she acts. She just gets it done and works through it. You have to figure it out as you go along.

Move through the emotions as you go through the work processes you need to go through.

Now, to some of you, this may sound obvious. But me, I like to have a plan and execute it unemotionally. And I did act on the plan this week. But a lot of it was uncertain and icky because I was learning.

I had to jump in and figure it out.

It was like trying to swim. I jumped into TikTok and kicked and splashed and figured it out. At the same time, I dared to put my love of literature and poetry out there. That was like jumping off the high dive!

And, you know what, I did! TikTok link

Conclusion

In conclusion, I vow to act faster than my self-limiting beliefs.

You guys, please remind me if I falter!

What about you? What emotional lessons are you learning as you build your business? What are you working through?

Please leave a comment, and let’s continue this important conversation.

Let’s work through it and dance!

Ciao for now,

  1. Hi Nakina,
Thanks for sharing those great tips on starting TikTok videos. I like your advice to give yourself some time to “play” with the app. I hope you continue to improve and become very successful in the TikTok shop! I also believe it’s best not to wait for perfection when putting something out there. I’ve learned it as “Read, Fire, Aim”, don’t aim forever until perfect for a shot, fire first then see where you hit the target, make adjustments then fire again, and repeat as needed until you hit the target 🎯. I know you’ll do excellent! All the best and have an Merry Christmas 🎄

  2. Hi Nakina,

Wow, this is such an inspiring post! I really admire how you’re pushing through the challenging parts of building a business and not letting emotions hold you back. It’s so true that we don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect before taking action. I’m so guilty about this! Your TikTok tips are really helpful, and I appreciate you sharing your journey with us. Keep going, you’re doing an amazing job! I can’t wait to see what you do next!

    1. Thank you, Meredith!
Before I started this journey, I wouldn’t have guessed that shooting for perfection would hold me back. Boy, does it! I’ve got a list of ideas and am ready to start batching some TikTok videos. I’m so glad you’ll be looking for them! Let’s do this 🙂
